Health & Safety Training Animation | Briggs Marine
At Chocolate Films, we recently had the exciting opportunity to collaborate with Briggs Marine, a family-owned leader in marine services and environmental solutions based in Scotland. With over 50 years of experience, Briggs Marine offers sustainable solutions to minimize risks and enhance their clients’ competitive edge.
The Brief: Creating a Fun and Informative Health & Safety Animation
We were tasked with creating a ten minute animation that clearly explains and illustrates the top line health and safety considerations for the Subsea Cables division of Briggs Marine.
The animation would be viewed by people working at Briggs marine as an induction to help the employees adjust to their new role and working environment.
Because of this, the client wanted the animation to reflect real life scenarios with both vessel and shoreside activities shown. However, they also wanted to keep a light and fun tone to the film to hold the viewer’s attention and ensure they were taking everything in.
How We Responded: Engaging, Character-Driven Animation
To meet the client’s needs, we created a character-driven animation that followed two main characters through various hazardous scenarios on-site. The characters illustrated proper responses to each situation, with a humorous twist to keep viewers engaged. The animation also highlighted essential personal protective equipment (PPE) such as ear defenders, hard hats, gloves, and safety eyewear.
Our aim was to balance realistic portrayals of safety hazards with a playful tone, ensuring the animation captured attention while delivering critical information.
Our Process: Collaborative and Detail-Oriented
Throughout the project, we maintained close collaboration with Briggs Marine to ensure the animation accurately reflected real-life situations. With a tight deadline, we held regular check-ins to keep the project on track and aligned with the client’s expectations.
Using images and descriptions provided by Briggs Marine, we created custom illustrations of the specific machinery, vessels, and environments involved in their work. These were then incorporated into a detailed storyboard that mapped out the animation from start to finish.
Once the storyboard was approved, we brought the project to life through detailed animation and motion graphics. We also integrated a fitting music track from our library and added subtle sound design elements like lapping waves and seagull squawks to enhance the viewer’s experience.
The Output: A Successful and Engaging Animation
The final animation was well-received by Briggs Marine and successfully met their training objectives. The animation not only educated employees about important health and safety protocols but also kept them engaged with its fun, dynamic style.
