I was invited down to do a short talk at the Creative Careers Hackathon run by the Creative Industries Federation. It was an opportunity to share my journey into a career as a filmmaker with young adults trying to get into the creative industry. I enjoyed speaking to them, as I remember vividly being in their position and thinking about and finding ways to get into filmmaking. I remember having the same worries when thinking about my career, whether it was the lack of knowledge or contacts in the industry, or perhaps the concerns from family members who are used to traditional professions and were worried whether a career in the creative industry was ‘realistic’.
Despite some of the young people’s concerns, all of them were full of enthusiasm, inquisitive and very optimistic about their future careers which was very inspiring to see. I found it an honour to be a part of their journey by sharing my own.
