A live action promo and an animated explainer to launch a new insurance brand for small business

An insurance company with big benefits

Blip has launched! It’s a new kind of insurance that serves the community of small business owners. At Chocolate Films, we love the creative challenge posed by business launches – it’s great to be part of the communications strategy from the outset.

Jefferson Communications, the financial digital communications agency, ran a competitive pitch for a moving image content creation company to work on the project and chose to work with Chocolate Films. We were thrilled to be commissioned to create an animated explainer, a live-action promo video and a radio ad.

Working together to refine promo ideas

Our filmmakers and producers used their extensive experience in corporate video production, to come up with a wide variety of ideas for the promo. The team at Blip and Jefferson, had some great references that they’d seen from other brands that helped define and route. The client chose to move forward with a dynamic presenter-led ad featuring cameos from a variety of small business owners as representatives of Blip’s clientele. As a playful reminder, the Blip branding is woven into these scenes on pizza boxes, wrapping paper and work uniforms.

Filming on location

The film was shot in real environments in South London. The film’s producer Anna Jeary planned the shoot to the finest degree to ensure writer/director Ben Phillips could capture his vision in a single filming day with four different locations and a total cast of six.

To make a film in these conditions takes a great deal of skill. Before the shoot, as well as a storyboard Ben created a full previs of the film to ensure that the day went as smoothly as possible. We combined natural daylight and available light with a portable lighting rig to achieve a consistent state. Our skilled sound recordist captured great audio on the day in spite of many environmental challenges!

Real South London businesses

Blip insurance is built for small businesses. In the ethos of the client and for added authenticity, we worked with different real life small businesses, from greengrocers to florists, as locations in the film. Some of the business owners themselves were also keen to feature, giving admirable performances!

Animating in Glasgow

While our London crew was shooting and editing promo, our Glasgow-based animation team was working hard on a short explainer to introduce Blip’s novel approach to insurance.

They worked with the brand new Blip branding to create an animation style that worked as an extension of the Blip look.  The resulting film includes typography, character animation and metaphorical animation in a seamless fluid output.

Typography designed for this animated film was also used to elevate the promo video, bringing a consistency in design to all the assets for this client.

Blip has just launched so keep an eye out for this fantastic new firm. Our work with them is not over. Listen out for their radio ad, which we will shortly be producing.

Inspiring content for brands

Here at Chocolate Films we love making inspiring content for corporate and charity clients. Our team of creatives and filmmakers will devise surprising creative approaches for our video content. Just check out this film that we recently produced for Brunel – the international recruitment agency. With a complex brief we produced a light  and fun film to encourage early stage engineers to choose a career in mining.

If you have a brief for a promo, don’t hesitate to get in touch!

Any artist or creative who has not wrapped their head around creating unique visual imagery needs to invest some time, effort and energy on this powerful medium which is now taking priority over a business card or website. Even a short workshop like those on offer at Chocolate Films will set you off in the right direction.

My children attended their film making workshops. What a great time they had! The crew members were fantastic, especially Bea, who has got excellent attitude towards children and tons of patience. I really recommend them, if you are looking for some quality workshops for your children.

I work at Cystic Fibrosis Trust and we are delighted with the animation Chocolate Films created for us. It met the brief and has helped us to explain our activities to current and future partners. Chocolate Films were a pleasure to work with and we appreciated their flexibility in working to a very tight timescale.

We commissioned Chocolate films to complete a BTS film as a promotional film for our Level 4 foundation course. We were out on location with our own 3 short films with our most senior students, and we needed an extra crew to capture all that was happening on set. They were thoughtful, efficient and proactive. Capturing some great interviews and BTS (thanks Elton!), weaving it into a great promotional film for us. Lucia steered the project beautifully from start to finish (thanks Nikita too). We’ve worked with Chocolate films before and would happily do so in the future. Chloe – London Screen Academy

I filmed a green screen production using sound and it came out great. Lucia and Nikka are lovely and happy to help, the facilities are exactly what I needed (there’s also a make-up room) and it was easy to get to.

The video content creation workshop offered by Chocolate Films was incredibly useful, packed full of handy tips on how to create compelling videos with the minimum equipment and time! The space is great and the team were welcoming, generous with their knowledge and clearly enthusiastic about what they do.
HUGE round of applause for the Chocolate Films team! We attended their ‘Using Video for Business’ Workshop, which they so kindly offered free of charge for local businesses in the Wandsworth area. Hosted at their lovely new Nine Elms studio space, we had a great morning of learning, chatting over tea and coffee. They are a really delightful and organised company that we hope to work with going forward, and we would love to see the team at one of our cookery classes one day! Ax
