Animating School Values | Christ Church Primary School
A school-wide video project combining stop motion animation, live action, and song to bring Christ Church Primary School’s values to life.
Bringing School Values to the Screen
Over several weeks, we worked closely with the teachers and students of Christ Church Primary School to produce a series of films – one for each year group, from Reception through to Year 6. The aim was to explore and celebrate the school’s core values: compassion, simplicity, courage, community, creativity, and living life in all its fullness.
The films were designed for both the school community and parents, showcasing the creativity of the children while reinforcing the values that shape their education. The project’s challenge lay in crafting a distinct yet cohesive visual approach for each year group, ensuring that every student could contribute in a meaningful way while working within the school’s timetable.
Script to Screen: The Creative Process
We worked with the school to design a creative plan that incorporated a mix of animation techniques, paper cutouts, lightbox animation, and claymation, alongside live-action sequences. Students also took part in pieces to camera, sharing their thoughts on the school values, and we filmed b-roll of their daily activities to bring authenticity to each film.
Pre-production involved developing tailored concepts for each year group, ensuring activities were age-appropriate while still encouraging creative challenge. We prepared simple storyboards, gathered art materials, and set up animation stations to allow for smooth workshop sessions. Close collaboration with the teachers meant we could schedule filming and animation work seamlessly around lessons, minimising disruption while maximising creative engagement.
From Classroom to Cinema
The workshops were hands-on from day one. Younger students experimented with colourful paper cutouts and lightbox animation, while older pupils worked with claymation, set design, and more complex camera techniques. Filming also captured moments of community, including the children singing Christian songs and hymns.
Over the course of a couple of months, we gathered a mix of animated sequences, live action, and sound recordings. The post-production process brought these together into polished short films, each reflecting the personality of each year group. The project ended in a special cinema screening, where the students and teachers saw their work on the big screen.
