Climate and the Brain | FutureNeuro
We were commissioned to create a compelling short film spotlighting how climate change is impacting cognitive and neurological health for FutureNeuro, a brain science research centre.
Using Video to Raise Awareness.
When we were commissioned by FutureNeuro, Ireland’s national SFI Research Centre for Translational Brain Science, we didn’t realise quite how fascinating the process would be.
The purpose of the film was to share FutureNeuro’s insights on how climate change can affect brain health. Rising heat levels have been shown to exacerbate conditions such as epilepsy. By grounding this global issue in deeply human experiences, the aim was to raise both awareness of the issue and empathy for the people impacted by it.
Created in the UK and Ireland
Though largely filmed on-location in Ireland, the entire production, from pre-production planning and scripting to post-production editing and sound design was carried out by our UK team. This hybrid approach allowed us to maintain creative control and consistency while leveraging authentic Irish settings.
The production aligned with our sustainable video production policy by minimising UK-Ireland travel to essential personnel only.
For the Irish shoot, a director from Chocolate Films worked with a local Irish DoP, using locally hired kit. This enabled us to reduce the climate impact of the project.
A rich multi-media creative approach
The content featured in the film is a blend of pre-existing footage, new footage and bespoke animation.
We shot interviews and B-roll at the FutureNeuro office and lab, where we employed a super-sharp, polished look to match the pioneering research being done there.
Back in Glasgow, the film was edited with custom animation sequences, stock footage and use of remote interviews, which allowed a huge volume of information to be conveyed through an extensive edit.
As the icing on the cake, the film was narrated by the fantastic presenter and DJ, Edith Bowman. Edith was the perfect person for the role, as she has both experiences of epilepsy and is an active climate campaigner.
Healthcare and Climate Sector Expertise
FutureNeuro combined two areas of expertise for us- content about health and content about climate change.
Through our long relationship with the Villars Institute, we’ve created a comprehensive video library of expert opinions on climate change problems and solutions, while our healthcare work spans across sectors and countries.

What our clients say
The workshops are really hands-on and encourage so much creativity, which is fantastic to see. My child feels so proud of what they’re creating, and the films they work on always turn out brilliant.
If you’re looking for a fun and creative activity for your kids, I can’t recommend their workshops enough.
